GO THE DISTANCE :  끝장을 보다

 

 

드라마 슈츠에는 유난히 스포츠와 관련된 영어표현이 많이 나오는 편입니다
특히 하비와 마이크 대화에서 농구, 야구, 복싱 이야기는 빠지는 법이 없죠

I'm willing to go the distance 라는 표현이 나오는데요

이 표현은 '먼거리를 가다'라는 표현으로 쓰이기도 하지만 
내가 한일은 끝장을 보다라는 표현으로 사용된다고 해요 

 

 

 

특히 야구에서 투수 한명이 교대없이 한 경기에서 끝까지 갈때 (일명 완투) 
고 더 디스턴스 라는 표현을 사용한다고 합니다.

야구뿐만 아니라 어떤 스포츠 경기에서도 선수가 교체되지 않고 끝까지 달린다면
모두 적용될수 있는 표현이겠네요

 

즉 끝장을 보다, 내가 시작한 일은 끝을 보겠다 라는 표현입니다
